For God said, ‘Honor your[a] father and your[b] mother,’[c] and ‘The one who speaks evil of father or mother must certainly die[d].’[e] But you say, ‘Whoever says to his[f] father or his[g] mother, “Whatever benefit you would have received[h] from me is a gift to God,” need not honor his father,’[i] and you make void the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
